A mi-chemin entre l\u2019Afrique, l\u2019Europe et les Etats-Unis, James BKS<\/a><\/strong> est un artiste franco-camerounais au pass\u00e9 passionnant et \u00e0 l\u2019avenir prometteur. N\u00e9 dans le 12e<\/sup> arrondissement de Paris, il d\u00e9m\u00e9nage \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e2ge de 19 ans aux Etats-Unis, o\u00f9 il entame une carri\u00e8re de beatmaker qui lui permet de se faire rep\u00e9rer et signer sur le label Konvikt Muzik d\u2019Akon. Cette premi\u00e8re \u00e9tape l\u2019am\u00e8nera notamment \u00e0 composer pour des c\u00e9l\u00e9brit\u00e9s du calibre de Snoop Dogg, Ja Rule ou Puff Daddy. Il \u00e9crit ensuite pour Vitaa, Akhenaton ou Youssoupha, et aussi beaucoup pour la publicit\u00e9 (Yves Saint Laurent, Prada ou Giorgio Armani) et le cin\u00e9ma (il a notamment compos\u00e9 la musique des films \u00ab\u00a0La Taularde\u00a0\u00bb\u00a0d’Audrey Estrougo et \u00ab\u00a0Le Gang des Antillais\u00a0\u00bb de Jean-Claude Flamand-Barny), puis d\u00e9cide de revenir s\u2019installer en France.<\/p>\n

Son pseudonyme \u00ab\u00a0BKS\u00a0\u00bb signifie \u00ab\u00a0Best Kept Secret\u00a0\u00bb (trad\u00a0: le secret le mieux gard\u00e9). Hasard ou co\u00efncidence, il n\u2019a appris que sur le tard qu\u2019il \u00e9tait en fait le fils cach\u00e9 du regrett\u00e9 Manu Dibango. Avant le d\u00e9c\u00e8s de ce dernier, il aura l\u2019occasion de collaborer avec son g\u00e9niteur pendant sept ans sur de nombreuses tourn\u00e9es, d\u00e9couvrant au passage son pays d\u2019origine, le Cameroun. Il fonde dans le m\u00eame temps son propre groupe, baptis\u00e9 New Breed, qui rassemble Guy Nwogang, l\u2019ancien percussionniste de Manu Dibango, Elias Israel \u00e0 la guitare, Black Kamoni \u00e0 la basse, mais aussi Anna Kova et Gracy Hopkins au chant, ainsi qu\u2019Osei Agyei et Annaelle Solet aux ch\u0153urs.<\/p>\n

En 2018,\u00a0 il sort le single \u00ab\u00a0Kwele\u00a0\u00bb avec Manu Dibango et Allan Kingdom, suivi de \u00ab\u00a0MaWakanda\u00a0\u00bb avec Ebenezer et Reo Cragun. Un an plus tard, James BKS fait paraitre le single \u00ab\u00a0New Breed\u00a0\u00bb, un titre qui fleure bon le hip hop old school, l\u2019afro-groove et la kora mandingue, sur lequel il r\u00e9unit l\u2019acteur Idris Elba, le rappeur Q-Tip (A Tribe Called Quest)\u00a0et la star anglaise montante Little Simz. Ces trois titres totaliseront plus de 6 millions de streams et seront notamment diffus\u00e9s sur BBC1, Radio6, 1Xtra, Radio Nova, Europe 1, Africa N\u00b01 ou RFI. Fin novembre 2020, il livre le single \u00ab\u00a0No Unga Bunga\u00a0\u00bb, \u00a0qui sera suivi de \u00ab\u00a0Stop talking\u00a0\u00bb, en avril prochain. Il d\u00e9voilera ensuite son premier album, intitul\u00e9 \u00ab\u00a0Wolves in Africa\u00a0\u00bb, annonc\u00e9 pour le mois de mai 2021, avec la participation de Yemi Alade, Davido, Oxlade, Royce 5\u20199 ou Mila J.<\/p>\n
