Si le compositeur Fortuny n&rsquo;est peut-\u00eatre pas le seul \u00e0 conna\u00eetre le chemin de ces salles sacr\u00e9es du pass\u00e9, il a trouv\u00e9 lui-m\u00eame le moyen d&rsquo;y entrer &#8211; et a cach\u00e9 la cl\u00e9 de ce portail dans un endroit s\u00fbr que personne d&rsquo;autre ne conna\u00eet.<\/p>\n<p>Bien qu&rsquo;elle ait v\u00e9cu en France pendant la majeure partie de ces vingt derni\u00e8res ann\u00e9es, <strong>Brisa Roch\u00e9<\/strong> est toujours l&rsquo;une des voix absolument exceptionnelles dans le paysage musical am\u00e9ricain actuel. V\u00e9ritable touche-\u00e0-tout, cette femme de 44 ans n&rsquo;\u00e9crit pas seulement ses propres chansons, mais travaille \u00e9galement comme auteur et peintre. D&rsquo;abord d\u00e9couverte dans les milieux du jazz &#8211; son premier album est sorti sur Blue Note Records &#8211; Roch\u00e9 a depuis touch\u00e9 \u00e0 plusieurs genres (dont la dark pop, le n\u00e9o-folk, l&rsquo;\u00e9lectro, le post-punk) avant de revenir enfin \u00e0 l&rsquo;\u00e9criture de chansons classiques.<\/p>\n<p><strong>M comme M\u00e9lodie<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Le nouvel album<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><em>Freeze Where U R<\/em><span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>est un coffre rempli \u00e0 ras bord de tr\u00e9sors \u00e9tincelants : Vous vous \u00e9merveillez devant un joyau sonore, et le suivant vient tout de suite \u00e0 votre rencontre et vous attire. Comment s&rsquo;y prennent-ils ? La base fut une conception instrumentale de Fred Fortuny, sur laquelle Brisa s&rsquo;exprime spontan\u00e9ment : son chant est la r\u00e9action spontan\u00e9e et intuitive \u00e0 ces m\u00e9lodies. Apr\u00e8s avoir ainsi \u00e9tal\u00e9 ses paroles et ses propres harmonies sur celles-ci, elle a ajout\u00e9 des chants de fond de style gospel &#8211; le tout dans un isolement complet, afin de pouvoir improviser de la mani\u00e8re la plus inconsciente possible. Ce n&rsquo;est que dans les derni\u00e8res \u00e9tapes que le groupe s&rsquo;est r\u00e9uni dans les c\u00e9l\u00e8bres studios ICP \u00e0 Bruxelles, o\u00f9 l&rsquo;enregistrement final a \u00e9t\u00e9 r\u00e9alis\u00e9 autour des pistes vocales qui en r\u00e9sultent. Le Studio C disposait pour cela d&rsquo;une table de mixage NEVE datant de 1973, qui, en combinaison avec ces chansons et les musiciens impliqu\u00e9s, a cr\u00e9\u00e9 un album qui sonne \u00e0 la fois vintage et contemporain.<\/p>\n<p><strong>C comme Californie<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Qu&rsquo;est-ce qui rend cet album si charismatique, si obs\u00e9dant ?<br \/>\nC&rsquo;est probablement d\u00fb au fait qu&rsquo;il s&rsquo;agit d&rsquo;une union musicale de deux individus par ailleurs tr\u00e8s ind\u00e9pendants. Brisa, originaire de Californie, a v\u00e9cu et c\u00e9l\u00e9br\u00e9 son personnage d&rsquo;outsider pendant de nombreuses ann\u00e9es &#8211; au moins depuis qu&rsquo;elle a commenc\u00e9 \u00e0 se produire comme musicienne de rue dans le m\u00e9tro parisien, il y a maintenant 26 ans. Avant cela, elle avait grandi dans une petite maison de Humboldt Bay, dans un coin recul\u00e9 du nord de la Californie. Sa famille a d\u00e9m\u00e9nag\u00e9 dans les montagnes quand elle avait 13 ans &#8211; et elle a donc grandi sans \u00e9lectricit\u00e9, ni t\u00e9l\u00e9phone. Puis, \u00e0 16 ans, Brisa est partie pour Seattle, o\u00f9 la vague grunge venait juste de d\u00e9ferler. En faisant de la ville de Paris son terrain de jeu et sa maison d&rsquo;adoption, sa carri\u00e8re d&rsquo;artiste \u00e9tait, en quelque sorte, pr\u00e9programm\u00e9e. La Californie invisible en elle, ces racines de la C\u00f4te Ouest, bien cach\u00e9es et nourries de sentiments, s&rsquo;entendent d\u00e9sormais sur ce nouvel album. L&rsquo;enthousiasme de la jeunesse r\u00e9sonne donc aussi dans ses compositions les plus fragiles &#8211; pure magie d&rsquo;un Far West dont elle est la seule \u00e0 conna\u00eetre les coordonn\u00e9es.<\/p>\n<p><strong>F comme F\u00e9minin<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>La voix et les paroles de Brisa font de \u00ab\u00a0Freeze Where U R\u00a0\u00bb un album r\u00e9solument f\u00e9minin. \u00ab\u00a0J&rsquo;ai \u00e9crit sur des moments et des th\u00e8mes de diff\u00e9rentes \u00e9tapes de la vie d&rsquo;une femme &#8211; vus \u00e0 travers la lentille \u00e9motionnelle de ma vie actuelle, mon existence dans l&rsquo;ici et maintenant\u00a0\u00bb, partage Roch\u00e9. \u00ab\u00a0L&rsquo;\u00e9mancipation, la nostalgie des amours d&rsquo;antan, la col\u00e8re contre les hommes, la s\u00e9paration et l&rsquo;ind\u00e9pendance au travail, toujours en train de commencer de nouveaux chapitres, la r\u00e9volte contre l&rsquo;esclavage que les progr\u00e8s technologiques et virtuels apportent&#8230;\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p>Au moment o\u00f9 Brisa Roch\u00e9 s&rsquo;est approch\u00e9e du micro, il lui est arriv\u00e9 quelque chose qu&rsquo;elle n&rsquo;avait jamais v\u00e9cu auparavant : elle s&rsquo;est s\u00e9par\u00e9e, transform\u00e9e en deux personnes.
