Comment de\u0301cririez- vous votre musique ?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Carpenter Brut aura biento\u0302t dix ans. A\u0300 la base c\u2019est un projet qui me\u0301lange a\u0300 la fois l\u2019e\u0301lectro dans le style de Justice et les ambiances et univers horrifiques principalement inspire\u0301s par John Carpenter. Je suis l\u2019unique compositeur, mais je suis accompagne\u0301 sur sce\u0300ne d\u2019un guitariste et d\u2018un batteur.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Vous venez de sortir un nouvel <\/em><\/strong><strong><em>opus,<\/em><\/strong><strong><em> le deuxie\u0300me e\u0301pisode d&rsquo;une trilogie : Leather Terror. Que repre\u0301sente cet album ? En quoi <\/em><\/strong><strong><em>fait-il<\/em><\/strong><strong><em> exactement suite a\u0300 Leather Teeth, sorti en 2018 ? En quoi est-il diffe\u0301rent ?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Surtout le temps que j\u2019ai eu pour les composer.\u00a0<em>Leather Teeth<\/em>\u00a0a e\u0301te\u0301 compose\u0301 en six mois contre dix-huit mois pour Leather Terror. Il y a quatre morceaux de plus, c\u0327a change beaucoup la consistance et la cohe\u0301rence de l\u2019album. Leather Terror fait plus mature et mieux travaille\u0301. Ensuite Leather Teeth et Leather Terror sont deux histoires diffe\u0301rentes, donc il fallait que les deux ambiances des albums soient diffe\u0301rentes : dans \u00ab\u00a0Leather Teeth\u00a0\u00bb, j&rsquo;ai pre\u0301sente\u0301 les diffe\u0301rents personnages de mon histoire, dont le personnage principal, Bret Halford, le geek fan de chimie, fan de glam rock et secre\u0300tement amoureux de Kendra, la pom-pom girl du lyce\u0301e qui est amoureuse de Chip, le quarterback populaire. Il e\u0301tait question d&rsquo;amour, de souvenirs d&rsquo;adolescents, de jalousie, de cole\u0300re. J&rsquo;avais besoin d&rsquo;englober tous ces sentiments, donc le son devait e\u0302tre plus le\u0301ger, moins sombre et agressif. Pour Leather Terror, l\u2019histoire se passe quatre ans plus tard ; Bret Halford est devenu une rock star pre\u0302te a\u0300 se venger des anciens du lyce\u0301e qui l\u2019ont harcele\u0301. L&rsquo;album devait e\u0302tre plus mature, plus sombre et plus agressif que le pre\u0301ce\u0301dent. Donc, l&rsquo;e\u0301volution musicale suit celle du personnage et de son histoire. Elle suit e\u0301galement l&rsquo;e\u0301volution musicale entre 1987, date de Leather Teeth et 1991, date a\u0300 laquelle l&rsquo;histoire se de\u0301roule dans Leather Terror. J&rsquo;ai essaye\u0301 de coller un peu a\u0300 cette p\u00e9riode. En fait, les deux albums sont comme Bret Halford, qui est passe\u0301 de lyce\u0301en insouciant a\u0300 adulte de\u0301termine\u0301.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Vos albums racontent l&rsquo;histoire de Bret Halford. Qui ou quoi a inspire\u0301 cette histoire ? Comment le deuxie\u0300me album continue-t-il <\/strong><\/em><em><strong>ce r\u00e9cit<\/strong><\/em><em><strong> ? Quelle personnalite\u0301 Bret Halford adopte-t-il ?<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Bret Halford et l\u2019histoire qui en de\u0301coule sont ne\u0301s de mon imagination. Adolescent, je regardais beaucoup de films de slashers, c\u2019est donc ma fac\u0327on a\u0300 moi de rendre hommage a\u0300 ces films de genre. Bret Halford e\u0301tant un mix de Bret Michaels du groupe Poison et de Rob Halford du groupe Judas Priest, je voulais aussi rendre hommage a\u0300 la musique metal et au glam rock. Comme e\u0301voque\u0301 plus haut, Bret Halford veut se venger de ceux qui l\u2019ont humilie\u0301 au lyc\u00e9e. Devenu une star du glam rock, il est c\u00e9l\u00e8bre et adule\u0301 de tous, mais malgre\u0301 tout, il n\u2019oublie pas ceux qui l\u2019ont harcele\u0301. Bret Halford est dans une optique de vengeance sanguinaire&#8230; Tout du moins dans sa t\u00eate. Tu vois, c\u2019est un sce\u0301nario totalement cliche\u0301 et basique de film de slasher a\u0300 la Vendredi 13 ou Halloween.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>La cre\u0301ation de votre nouvel album a-t-elle e\u0301te\u0301 un long processus et si oui, pourquoi ?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>J\u2019ai profite\u0301 du fait que j\u2019avais dit a\u0300 mon booking agent que je ne voulais pas tourner en 2020, car je voulais me concentrer sur la composition de mon prochain album. Finalement, j\u2019ai bien fait car la pande\u0301mie du Covid-19 a fait en sorte que tout le monde reste chez soi. Aussi, j\u2019en ai profite\u0301 pour demander a\u0300 des chanteuses et chanteurs que j\u2019appre\u0301cie s\u2019il voulaient collaborer avec moi sur ce nouvel album. J\u2019ai mis un an et demi a\u0300 composer ce disque, j\u2019ai pris mon temps, explore\u0301 de nouvelles sonorite\u0301s. C\u2019e\u0301tait une pe\u0301riode assez prolifique car j\u2019avais beaucoup de temps pour moi et ma musique.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Pour cet album, vous avez <\/strong><\/em><em><strong>travaill\u00e9<\/strong><\/em><em><strong> avec des personnes tre\u0300s diffe\u0301rentes. La chanson \u00ab\u00a0Imaginary Fire\u00a0\u00bb a e\u0301te\u0301 cre\u0301e\u0301e avec Greg Puciato. Comment <\/strong><\/em><em><strong>votre<\/strong><\/em><em><strong> collaboration s\u2019est<\/strong><\/em><em><strong>-elle<\/strong><\/em><em><strong> passe\u0301e<\/strong><\/em><em><strong> ? Qu\u2019est-ce que cela vous a apport\u00e9\u00a0?<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>J\u2019ai compose\u0301 la musique et j\u2019ai demande\u0301 a\u0300 Greg s\u2019il e\u0301tait partant pour chanter dessus. En fait, a\u0300 la base la chanson devait e\u0302tre chante\u0301e par Chino Moreno, mais au final pour des raisons de temps et de motivation, c\u0327a ne s\u2019est pas fait. Aussi j\u2019ai demande\u0301 a\u0300 Ben Koller \u2013le batteur de Converge &#8211; qui il imaginait pouvoir chanter sur le morceau : il m\u2019a re\u0301pondu Greg Puciato et il m\u2019a mis en contact avec lui. Greg a aime\u0301 le morceau et m\u2019a propose\u0301 une topline assez rapidement et tout s\u2019est enchaine\u0301. Comme je composais pendant la pande\u0301mie, beaucoup de groupes et d\u2019artistes e\u0301taient coince\u0301s chez eux et donc disponibles. J&rsquo;en ai donc profite\u0301 pour contacter beaucoup d&rsquo;entre eux. J&rsquo;aime les chansons efficaces, le format pop et les voix sont un plus pour ce genre de chansons. Avec les morceaux instrumentaux, j&rsquo;aime les faire durer, leur donner le temps de se de\u0301velopper. Ce sont donc deux approches diffe\u0301rentes. Je voulais faire les deux pour cet album, c&rsquo;est pourquoi il y a six chansons avec des voix et six pistes instrumentales.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Pour le clip de \u00ab\u00a0The Widow Maker\u00a0\u00bb, vous avez collabore\u0301 avec l&rsquo;acteur <\/strong><\/em><em><strong>de renomm\u00e9e<\/strong><\/em><em><strong> international<\/strong><\/em><em><strong>e<\/strong><\/em><em><strong> Dylan Sprouse. Comment les arts <\/strong><\/em><em><strong>du<\/strong><\/em><em><strong> cine\u0301ma et de la musique <\/strong><\/em><em><strong>ont-ils<\/strong><\/em><em><strong> pu fusionner ici ?<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Dylan et moi nous nous connaissons depuis trois ans maintenant. Je savais qu\u2019il me suivait sur les re\u0301seaux sociaux et qu\u2019il aimait ma musique. Un jour, je rec\u0327ois un email de son agent qui me demande mon adresse, car Dylan veut m\u2019envoyer le comic book sur lequel il avait e\u0301crit le script (Sun Eater). Quand je l\u2019ai rec\u0327u, il y avait cette gentille note ou\u0300 il me disait que ma musique l\u2019avait accompagne\u0301 dans son processus d\u2019e\u0301criture. On est donc entre\u0301 en contact comme c\u0327a et au fil du temps, je me suis dis qu\u2019il incarnerait parfaitement Bret Halford, je lui en ai parle\u0301 et il a tout de suite accepte\u0301.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Une tourne\u0301e mondiale est pre\u0301vue en automne &#8211; qu&rsquo;est-ce que c\u0327a fait, apre\u0300s deux ans de pande\u0301mie ?<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>C\u0327a va faire bizarre de reprendre la route et de faire des milliers de kilome\u0300tres en peu de temps. Il y a beaucoup de stress, non seulement dans la pre\u0301paration des concerts mais aussi parce que la pande\u0301mie n\u2019est toujours pas termine\u0301e, donc il va falloir rester sur ses gardes et ne pas tomber malade car cela voudrait dire annuler des dates.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>En dehors de la tourne\u0301e, est-ce que vous avez d\u2019autres projets pre\u0301vus?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Pour le moment, je me concentre a\u0300 cent pour cent sur les concerts. J\u2019aime bien me concentrer sur une chose a\u0300 la fois afin de bien faire les choses.
