La chanteuse et pianiste am\u00e9ricaine Sarah McCoy<\/a><\/strong> est de retour avec son nouvel album High Priestess<\/em><\/strong>, disponible depuis le 27 janvier dernier. Enregistr\u00e9 avec le producteur v\u00e9t\u00e9ran Renaud Letang<\/strong> (Feist, Keren Ann ou Charlotte Gainsbourg) et sous l’aile bienveillante de Chilly Gonzales<\/strong> (connu pour la touche intimiste de ses albums Solo Piano et ses collaborations avec Jarvis Cocker<\/strong>, Feist, Drake ou Daft Punk), ces nouvelles \u0153uvres marquent un tournant pour cette auteure-compositrice-interpr\u00e8te accomplie, dont la voix puissante r\u00e9v\u00e8le de douloureuses f\u00ealures.<\/span><\/p>\n

C\u2019est en 2013 qu\u2019elle est d\u00e9couverte par le documentariste fran\u00e7ais Bruno Moyni\u00e9 qui, connaissant des gens du milieu de la musique fran\u00e7aise, lui d\u00e9croche son premier concert en France. Apr\u00e8s une prestation remarqu\u00e9e au festival parisien Les Nuits de l’Alligator en 2014, elle revient jouer plusieurs fois en France et d\u00e9cide de s’installer \u00e0 Paris en 2017. Ma\u00eetrisant parfaitement l’exercice solo depuis son premier album Blood Siren<\/em> (2019), pl\u00e9biscit\u00e9 par la presse fran\u00e7aise (ffff et \u00ab\u00a0Best World Album 2019\u00a0\u00bb T\u00e9l\u00e9rama, 4* et \u00ab\u00a0Twenty best of 2019\u00a0\u00bb Nouvel Obs) et allemande (Vogue, Stern Magazin), Sarah a depuis \u00e9volu\u00e9 vers des sonorit\u00e9s modernes, \u00e9lectroniques, voire futuristes, qu’un tout nouveau public d\u00e9couvrira, tout en gardant cette conviction visc\u00e9rale d’\u00e9criture de chansons ramen\u00e9e de la Nouvelle Orl\u00e9ans qui lui a permis d\u2019\u00eatre imm\u00e9diatement adopt\u00e9e par la sc\u00e8ne jazz et blues europ\u00e9enne.<\/p>\n

\u00ab\u00a0Je ne suis pas s\u00fbr que quelqu’un puisse d\u00e9finir le \u00ab\u00a0genre\u00a0\u00bb de High Priestess<\/em>, mais c’est \u00e9tonnamment convivial pour l’intensit\u00e9 de la musique… Tout d\u00e9pend de l’atmosph\u00e8re dans laquelle les chansons sont n\u00e9es. La Nouvelle-Orl\u00e9ans est une anomalie tr\u00e8s particuli\u00e8re aux \u00c9tats-Unis, et c’est l\u00e0 que j’ai nourri cette musique de Blood Siren<\/em> \u00e0 la fois sombre comme un bar hant\u00e9 au fond de la mer… et l\u00e9g\u00e8re comme une t\u00eate dans les nuages. Avec le nouvel album, c’est plus comme avoir les mains dans le sol. Quand je chante High Priestess<\/em>, j’aborde quelque chose de tr\u00e8s diff\u00e9rent. C’est une dissection de ma relation personnelle avec moi-m\u00eame.\u00a0\u00bb d\u00e9clare Sarah McCoy.<\/p>\n

Les compositions de ce nouvel opus creusent de plus en plus profond\u00e9ment cet int\u00e9rieur, pour r\u00e9v\u00e9ler une artiste en constante \u00e9volution, \u00e0 tel point qu’aucun \u00ab\u00a0genre\u00a0\u00bb ne lui colle longtemps. Nous avons tous chang\u00e9 au cours de ces derni\u00e8res ann\u00e9es d’isolement profond. Sarah McCoy, pour sa part, a construit l’architecture d’un album dans son univers singulier qui expose \u00ab\u00a0la dissection et le questionnement de soi et de la sant\u00e9 mentale avec un couteau musical douloureux mais doux\u00a0\u00bb. C’est un album \u00ab\u00a0thermonucl\u00e9aire\u00a0\u00bb, dit-elle, avec des basses profondes et bouillonnantes, des synth\u00e9s, des beats, un piano sombre et, bien s\u00fbr, son incantation vocale toujours obs\u00e9dante qui d\u00e9fie les soi-disant certitudes de la r\u00e9alit\u00e9 et donne des textures postapocalyptiques \u00e0 l\u2019ensemble.<\/p>\n

Le public aura l\u2019occasion de la retrouver sur sc\u00e8ne pour le lancement de son album et de sa tourn\u00e9e, avec une premi\u00e8re date \u00e0 Paris qui se tiendra le 2 f\u00e9vrier 2023 au 104.
