Thibaut Garcia’s Interview

In this feature, Thibaut Garcia takes us through his journey. From the moment he played his first notes on the guitar, he fell in love with it, and even today, he still experiences a powerful adrenaline rush every time he plays. He shares his inspirations, what this instrument means to him, as well as his tastes in French pastries, films, and books.

Who is Thibaut Garcia?

Of French-Spanish descent, Thibaut Garcia was born in 1994 and developed a passion for music at an early age. For him, the guitar is a family affair. This instrument has always been a tool for sharing, and in his childhood home, there was always one of his parents playing the guitar—whether it was his father performing classical or flamenco music, or his mother using it to accompany her singing. Wanting to deepen his knowledge, he trained at the Conservatoire of Toulouse and later at the CNSM in Paris. Recognized for his talent and diverse repertoire, he would go on to perform on some of the world’s most prestigious stages.

His Inspirations and Career

His guitar has taken him across the globe. Thanks to it, he has performed in Japan, the United States, and South America. Influenced by composer Agustín Barrios Mangoré, Thibaut Garcia firmly believes that the guitar has the power to bring people together.

Playing solo, chamber, and concerto music, he has already received numerous accolades throughout his career: First Prize at the prestigious Guitar Foundation of America (USA) competition in 2015, BBC New Generation Artist (2017-2019), Instrumental Revelation at the Victoires de la Musique Classique in 2019, and winner of the Mecklenburg Vorpommern Festival (2023). Over time, he has established himself as one of the most gifted guitarists of his generation.

Thibaut Garcia now performs on some of the world’s greatest stages and festivals, including Wigmore Hall in London and the Philharmonie de Paris.
