Who is Thomas Dunford?
Born in 1988, Thomas Dunford started playing the lute at the age of nine and pursued his training at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris, where he graduated with top honors. Quickly recognized for his exceptional talent, he has performed on some of the world’s greatest stages.
His Career
Since 2010, Thomas Dunford has collaborated with numerous prestigious ensembles, such as Les Arts Florissants, Pygmalion, and Le Concert Spirituel. In 2018, he founded his own ensemble, Jupiter, bringing together renowned musicians to explore the baroque repertoire with a fresh and innovative approach.
He has participated in international festivals and played in prestigious venues such as Carnegie Hall in New York, Wigmore Hall in London, and the Salzburg Festival. His virtuosic and expressive playing has captivated both audiences and critics alike.
In addition to his performing career, he has recorded several acclaimed albums, highlighting composers such as Dowland, Bach, and Vivaldi. His work with Jupiter, particularly around French and Italian baroque cantatas and arias, has been praised for its originality and musical intensity.
For the 2023-2024 season, Thomas Dunford continues to perform both as a soloist and with Jupiter, exploring new repertoires and collaborating with artists such as Sabine Devieilhe, Lea Desandre, and Jean Rondeau.
