About the artist
Born in the Normandy town of Alençon in 1982, Aurélien Cotentin, a.k.a. OrelSan, is a French rapper, singer and songwriter who first earned a name for himself online before truly breaking through in 2008 with the track ‘Changement’. A year later, he released his debut album, Perdu d’avance, which would earn him the 2009 MTV Europe Music Award for Best French Act and was followed in 2011 by a second LP, Le chant des sirènes, which achieved Gold certification just a month after its release. The artist would then put out La fête est finie (2017) and Civilisation (2021), with the latter winning three awards at that year’s Victoires de la Musique. By peppering his lyrics with strands of humour and truth, OrelSan takes on everyday issues as well as more political and controversial matters with an equally biting and cynical frankness.
