This six-episode serie delves into the creative secrets behind some of the most iconic tracks of the French Touch movement.
Episode 3 : Demon – “You are my high”
What the France meets Jérémie Mondon, aka Demon, for the third episode of the Once Upon a Hit series. Originally focused on creating instrumentals for rappers, Demon decided to experiment with a new genre that was exploding at the time: French Touch. With global artists like Etienne de Crecy and Daft Punk, Demon carved out his place with a hit that will become iconic: “You Are My High.”
Drawing inspiration from soul and funk, Demon released the track “You Are My High” on January 20, 2000, a song that appealed to a broad audience, even those who weren’t into electronic music. The track is sampled from the 70s funk band The Gap Band’s ballad “You Are My High.” It’s a very melodic piece, with no drums. It’s neither funk nor disco, and at first glance, it doesn’t seem like the kind of track you could really let loose to. However, Demon managed to turn it into an electronic music anthem.
In this video, the DJ tells the story of his track. From its creation and inspirations to its famous remixes and iconic music video featuring a passionate kiss that has accumulated over 58 million views, everything that turned this song into a global hit. “You Are My High” remains, even today, a symbol of the impact of French Touch worldwide. An undeniable anthem that continues to make crowds dance at parties all over the globe.
