Nouvelle Vague | World Tour
In the wake of the French Touch explosion, the Parisian collective led by Marc Collin and Olivier Libaux released their first album in 2004. The concept followed a formula that was as simple as it was suprtising: New Wave x Bossa Nova = Nouvelle Vague. Punk and new wave songs were treated as though they were standards an reinterpreted in a languid style of bossa nova from the 50s and 60s., with luxurious arrangements and captivating vocals. Nouvelle Vague rapidly became a global phenomenon, with their cast of guest singers including Camille and Mélanie Pain. “These are not just covers-by-numbers, but intelligent and sensuous (versions)” was how they were described by Franco-German TV station Arte, while they produced a mixed response from New Wave purists.
After five albums and despite the sad loss of Olivier Libaux last year, Nouvelle Vague are setting out again on a world tour to (belatedly) celebrate their 15th anniversary, accompanied by singers Mélanie Pain, Élodie Frégé and Phoebe Killdeer.
