In the latest episode of ‘A classical voyage with…’, dive right back into the heart of classical music with What the France as we interview the exceptional pianist and Conservatoire de Paris graduate Tanguy de Williencourt.

An interview with Tanguy de Williencourt

In this exclusive interview, de Williencourt discusses his exciting musical journey and his deep love of classical, as well as sharing memories dating all the way back to a childhood influenced by his father’s own passion for music, which led him to discover Beethoven at a very early age.

So, who is Tanguy de Williencourt?

Born in Paris in 1990, Tanguy de Williencourt has distinguished himself by taking home prizes at a whole host of international piano competitions – including a Prix du Jury/Prix du Public double from the Société des Arts de Genève in 2016 – while his playing style, which has been hailed for its emotional depth, refined technique and ability to convey complex emotions, has graced stages as prestigious as the Philharmonie de Paris and the Maison de la Radio’s Grand Auditorium. The pianist’s career has also taken him to spots at a variety of renowned festivals and to collaborations with some eminent musicians, thereby illustrating his passion for musical diversity.

de Williencourt’s career

The now 33-year-old’s time as a student at the Conservatoire de Paris was characterised by the education that he received from teachers as famous as Roger Muraro, Claire Désert and Jean-Frédéric Neuberger. Since then, de Williencourt has also received support from both the Blüthner Foundation and the Banque Populaire Corporate Foundation, as well as from French performers’ rights associations ADAMI and SPEDIDAM.

In 2021, de Williencourt began passing on his passion for the piano by teaching it at his old stomping ground of the Conservatoire de Paris, and in 2022, he gained further recognition in his field when Gustavo Dudamel named him as a choirmaster at the Paris Opera, thereby confirming his talent and his impact on the world of music.
