American Way of Live | Alain Souchon

Alain Souchon, music from father to son

After a career spanning more than 50 years, Alain Souchon played four consecutive nights at the Salle Pleyel, accompanied by his two sons. What the France followed them during their performance at Town Hall in New York last year in its “American Way Of Live” feature. This is yet another achievement for the singer, who decided to pursue his dreams with his family.

In the 1970s, he added his tender touch to French music with the song “J’ai 10 ans,” a universal track that was born following his decisive meeting with Laurent Voulzy. Oscillating between light themes, with an album like “Au ras des pâquerettes,” and darker themes with “Ultra Moderne Solitude,” Alain Souchon has managed to win over a French audience in search of sincerity and simplicity. After the success of his song “Ballade de Jim,” which earned him his first Victoire de la Musique award in 1985, the hit song “Foule Sentimentale,” released in 1993, definitively established him as one of the greatest French singers. Yet Alain has always remained discreet and faithful to the values he defends in his songs.

With 15 studio albums to his name, concerts in the most legendary venues, and two César Award nominations, Alain Souchon has managed to sustain his career by always maintaining his characteristic independence. Today, he continues to enjoy performing on stage, sharing it with his two sons, Ours and Pierre, with whom he recorded his latest album, Studio Saint-Germain.

In this interview, Alain Souchon, Pierre Souchon, and Ours discuss the bond between them and the almost obvious nature of their collaboration. The two sons chose to follow in their father’s footsteps and, after pursuing solo careers, took a step forward in 2025 by intensifying their collaboration. The trio shared the stage on a tour throughout France and North America, with this date at Town Hall being one of the highlights.

They talk about their pride in playing in New York for the first time in their lives, their Anglo-Saxon influences, their relationship, and how they ended up touring together after a doctor’s appointment…
