Angélique Kidjo | Australia & New Zealand Tour 2024

Five-time Grammy winner Angélique Kidjo announces Australia & New Zealand tour, celebrating her 40 years career!

Angélique Kidjo, celebrated for her powerful voice and commanding stage presence, will perform music from her latest album Mother Nature (Note that she has since released another album in collaboration with Ibrahim Maalouf in 2022, titled Queen of Sheba), released on French label Decca Records France, and selections from her vast back-catalogue across 6 performance dates in her upcoming Australia & New Zealand tour. Her destinations include: Perth (29 February), Brisbane (4 March), Melbourne (5 March), Sydney (6 March), Auckland (9 March) and Adelaide (12 March). 

The tour comes as a celebration of the global performers 40 year career in the music industry, and her resulting achievements. Angélique Kidjo said this about her upcoming shows: “Both Australia and New Zealand hold very fond places in my heart and I can’t wait to come back in 2024, which will also include my first performance in Auckland. It is great to be celebrating 40 years of performing on a continent which was one of the first to embrace my career!

Having grown up in the West African nation of Benin and currently residing in New York City and Paris, Angélique’s music mixes the influences of her West African Upbringing with inspiration from American R&B, funk and modal jazz. Angelique’s most recent album, Mother Nature (2021 – Decca Records), powerfully addresses two extremely prevalent issues in our society: racial inequity and the climate crisis, and skillfully combines the personal and political aspects, creating a piece of work that inspires positivity.

Angélique has previously been recognised as one of Time Magazine’s 100 most influential people and The Guardian’s Top 100 inspiring Women in the world. She involves herself not only as a musician but as a humanitarian, having founded Batonga in 2006 – a foundation currently assisting in educating over 8,000 young women in Africa -, and working as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador.
