Fatoumata Diawara | World tour

Malian singer Fatoumata Diawara represents modern African music. She has worked with the likes of Bobby Womack and Herbie Hancock, has toured with Cuban pianist Roberto Fonseca and played at major festivals like Glastonbury. Now she’s heading out on a world tour.

Fenfo, her latest album, was recorded in Mali, Burkina Faso, Barcelona and Paris, and she produced it with Matthieu Chedid. “I’ve had a lot of musical adventures since the last album, I’ve toured and worked with so many other musicians and I think you can hear how all that has found its way on to the record,” says Diawara. Fenfo is an album that knows no borders. On it, Fatoumata combines the electric guitar with traditional African stringed instruments like the kora and the ngoni, and drums with timeless rhythms and traditional percussion.
