OKALI | Release party at la Boule Noire – What The France x Le Fair
On 4 February, OKALI, a trip-hop band with a diverse range of influences, performed at La Boule Noire in Paris for the launch party of their debut EP. Behind the scenes at this Paris gig, What The France meets the artist, who offers a blend of what she retains from her Cameroonian roots and the people she has met in France, supported by the association Le Fair, an initiative supporting the launch of careers and professional development in contemporary music.
For this independent band that started from scratch, this gig is a small miracle built with their own hands, a celebration for them, for whom music is all about connections and unity.
On her debut EP ‘Okali’, she sings beautifully in her native dialect, blending it with electric guitar and powerful drums. For her, music is a means of uniting the voices that make it up. The sounds they describe as trip-hop are a journey through the cultures that have crossed her path.
All dressed in outfits designed by the singer, Okali invites us into her world through sound and image, which she sees as two complementary mediums. Gentleness, charisma and gratitude blend into an endearing personality that has managed to convey powerful emotions to a packed venue.
