PRAA | Online concert for the Institut Français de Valencia
Continuing our mission to support ‘Made in France’ artists, What The France invites you to discover the singer Marion Lagassat – or PRAA as she is better known – from your living room. You can catch the performance this Thursday 15th April via the Facebook page of the Institut français de Valencia.
Child of the 90s, Lagassat was raised on the British pop, American folk and R’n’B of the era. Also influenced by Hollywood cinema and the conceptual art of the 70s and 80s, she moved to Los Angeles when she was 18. He first folk project led to several tours, and supported artists like Angus Stone, Tété and Arthur H. Her musical eclecticism stems from her limitless curiosity.
Under her new alias, she performs neo soul songs that are as ambitious as they are delicate. The production references R’n’B as well as trip hop artists like NAO, Jorja Smith, Portishead et Kehlani. It’s a deceptively minimal sound, suspended between the electronic and the organic, and held together by an inimitable French savoir faire, and over which PRAA drapes her rich vocals and glistening melodies.
With just a couple of singles, Praa received praise in the French media and from international critics at Clash Magazine, HighsNobiety, BBC, Earmilk, Dummy and The 405. Released on the Elephant & Castle label, her eponymous EP from 2019 led to performances around Europe (and at festivals like Reeperbahn, Les Transmusicales and The Great Escape). Her most recent single, ‘Sweet Shock’, is in our ‘Playlist Of The Month’.
PRAA’s performance will be taking place on Thursday 15th April, streamed on the Facebook page of the Institut Français de Valencia at 7pm CEST.
