Les Talens Lyriques | ‘Faust’ gets its reward at Opus Klassik 2020

Gounod’s Faust, recorded with the Palazzetto Bru Zane, has won the German prize for classical music, Opus Klassik 2020, in the ‘Lyrical Recording’ category! It also features among the nominees for the Gramophone Classical Music Awards 2020, in the ‘Opera’ category

This masterpiece of French opera, composed by Charles Gounod (1818-1893), still has the capacity to surprise. Originally conceived in the spirit of comic opera, the 1859 score alternated dialogue and music, mixing comedy with romantic pathos. It’s this ‘first Faust’ that the Palazzetto Bru Zane brings to life in this recording, in particular the numerous pieces that were cut or subsequently modified. To restore the work to its original splendour, the Centre de musique romantique française called on Christophe Rousset and Les Talens Lyriques who put their own particular stamp on a score we thought we knew so well. It’s also one of the first significant recordings from young tenor Benjamin Bernheim, who finds the perfect foil in Véronique Gens.

Also worth noting is that on 25th September two new recordings from  Christophe Rousset and Les Talens Lyriques will be released on Aparté: Betulia Liberata, de Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Les Pièces de Clavecin d’Armand-Louis Couperin.
