CNM – Certifications Export 2023 | The Playlist !

On Monday, April 29th, the Centre National de la Musique released certifications for international listens of artists produced in France, in partnership with SNEP. Alongside the regulars in export certifications, numerous artists are making their debut on the list of international successes.

The number of new releases (albums or singles released in 2022 and 2023) certified for export in 2023 increased by 21% compared to the previous year. Among the newly certified albums, you can find artists like Tiakola and Dadju, with their works “Melo” and “Cullinan,” respectively, both reaching Gold status internationally. 54 artists received certifications for their new releases, including 30 collaborations (compared to 11 collaborations in 2022). Soolking and Gazo see their track “Casanova” certified Diamond for export, along with Bob Sinclar and Fisher with “World Hold On,” and Oxlade and Camilla Cabello receiving Platinum certification for their duet “KU LO SA.”

In 2023, many artists received their first-ever export certification. Pierre de Maere, certified Gold with his track “Un jour je marierai un ange,” which amassed over 60 million views on TikTok and 11,000 video creations. Initially shared as a short format on social media, Boris Way‘s “Pink Soldiers” became one of the flagship soundtracks of digital content worldwide in just a few months, earning Gold certification for export, along with young Parisian multi-instrumentalist Lewis Ofman and his single “Attitude.”

Aya Nakamura continues to shine beyond borders with 15 new certifications, her album “NAKAMURA” now exceeding one million copies sold internationally (2x Diamond), while her latest album “DNK” is certified Gold. La Zarra, who represented France at Eurovision 2023 with her single “Évidemment,” receives Gold certification for export. Angèle‘s album “Nonante-Cinq” reaches Platinum status with over 100,000 copies sold abroad, and six of her singles also reach new milestones. Finally, Nej‘s track “Paro” is certified 2x Diamond for export, and Mayra Andrade‘s “Afeto” is certified Gold.

Afro music, representing 14% of newly certified tracks, emerges as the second most-streamed genre for the first time, accounting for 23% of total streams, alongside rap. Jungeli, a young Congolese-origin songwriter, achieves success with his hit “Petit Génie” (Gold for export), released last summer and featuring Imen Es, Alonzo, Abou Debeing, and Lossa as guests. Fally Ipupa‘s latest album “Formule 7” is also certified Gold for export, along with his tracks “Amore” and “Likolo.” Artist Oxlade certifies 7 tracks in 2023, including the famous “KU LO SA – A Colors Show,” reaching a new milestone of 6x Diamond.

Rap remains prominent with artists like Hamza, SCH, and Zeg P, who dominated the summer of 2022 with their hit “Fade Up” (Gold), Ninho, present on 18 certifications, and Jul and PNL, certifying albums and singles.

Lastly, dance/electro remains essential, with Ofenbach achieving Diamond certification with “I,” and Lavern receiving certification for 3 tracks, totaling over 100 million streams for export. Kungs’ album “Club Azur” reaches a new milestone (2x Platinum), Naeleck has 4 certified tracks (3 Gold and one Platinum), and Myd‘s “The Sun” is certified Diamond.

The share of French back catalog in streaming continues to increase, with social networks and synchronizations contributing to this viral phenomenon.

Over 8 years after its release, Jain‘s “Makeba” is certified 6x Diamond with 429 million streams worldwide and nearly 60 billion views on TikTok. “Amour Plastique” by Videoclub (Adèle Castillon and Mattyeux) experiences a new surge internationally (certified 4x Diamond), particularly in Mexico and the United States, following a series of memes and a slowed-down version of the track related to Ridley Scott’s film Napoleon.

“Hier Encore” by Aznavour is certified Diamond for export as it returns to the spotlight in 2023, thanks to its synchronization in the Netflix series Lupin and its use as a sample in the track “Monaco” on Bad Bunny’s latest album, sparking a trend in many territories. 2023 also marks the fifth anniversary of Rachid Taha‘s passing, whose legendary single “Ya Rayah” is certified Platinum for export. The group Caravan Palace sees their eponymous album certified Gold for export, and the emergence of new trends on social networks around iconic songs by Manu Chao has allowed a new generation to embrace his tracks. Three songs by the Franco-Spanish singer receive new certification: “Je ne t’aime plus” (Diamond single), “Bong Bong” (3x Diamond single), and “Me Gustas Tu” (11x Diamond single).
